The Handmaid's Tale is a dystopian novel by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, first published by McClelland and Stewart in 1985. The novel explores themes of women in subjugation, and the various means by which they gain agency, against the backdrop of a totalitarian pseudo-Christian theocracy which has overthrown the United States government in the near future.

Econowives are women who have married relatively low-ranking men, meaning any man who does not belong to the ruling elite. They are expected to perform all the female functions: domestic duties, companionship, child-bearing. Their dress is multicoloured red, blue, and green to reflect these multiple roles.

Fringe Party : GOP loses traction in 21st century

Republicans are bailing on McCain/Palin- the Right Wing tea leaves are spelling disaster for their candidate. The 8 years of destruction wreaked by the Bush Admin is culminating in an all-out meltdown of the global economy. Americans voting for Barack see Obama not only as an answer to the financial concerns of the middle class but also as a way to get the USA back on its feet and moving in the right direction.

People naturally want to feel good again about their country. Americans want to be able to provide for their families. Americans want a president at least as intelligent as they are.

This kind of behavior is not mainstream. You can't do stuff like this anymore in a civilized, industrial nation. There's no excuse. It's racism. It's ugly. And it's finally started to really die off.

Let's bury it deep and salt its grave so it can never spring up again. Bring garlic- I hear they don't like that either.
